Gregg Berhalter is an American soccer player turned coach who currently stands as the head coach of the United States men's national soccer team. Earlier, he coached Columbus Crew SC in Major League Soccer (MLS), Hammarby IF in Sweden, and was an assistant coach for LA Galaxy.

Playing Career

Gregg finished his collegiate career at North Carolina Tar Heels. In 1993, he joined Raleigh Flyers. Further, he played for Zwolle (1994-96), Sparta Rotterdam (1996-98), Cambuur Leeuwarden (1988-2000), Crystal Palace (2001-02), Energie Cottbus (2002-06), 1860 Munich (2006-09), and LA Galaxy (2009-11). 

Overall, he played 358 games and scored 22 goals.

Coaching Career

On 12th December 2011, Gregg Berhalter was appointed the head coach for Swedish club Hammarby IF, becoming the first American to ever manage a professional soccer team in Europe. On 24th July 2013, he was fired for a "lack of attacking play" Hammarby was in eighth place at the time of the sacking.

On 6th November 2013, Berhalter was appointed the sporting director as well as head coach of Columbus Crew. Under his belt, he leads the team head coach of Columbus Crew. Further, he reached the MLS Cup 2015, however, got defeated at home 2–1 to the Portland Timbers.

On 2nd December 2018, Berhalter was officially introduced as the manager of the United States national team. He had his first win as manager in a friendly against Panama on January 27, 2019.
