Brazilian professional footballer Diego de Souza Andrade is better known as Diego Souza. The player currently plays for Sport Recife in “Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A."
Diego Souza was born on 17th June 1985, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as Diego de Souza Andrade. He started off playing club football for Fluminense. After playing a year on the youth team, he was promoted to the best team of the club in 2003.
In 2005, he signed with Benfica, and shortly after that, he was loaned to Flamengo. He returned to Benfica in 2006-07 Premier League; however, he appeared only on 19th September 2006 as a substitute player.
In 2007, he was loaned by Gremio. For the club, he made 33 appearances and scored eight goals.
In 2008, Souza signed a three-year contract with Palmeiras for €3.75 million. On 18th April 2009, during the state semifinal match against Santos, he received a red cared because of some dispute between him and Domingos.
On 29th November, he scored a bravura goal against Atletico Mineiro. In the same year, he helped the squad to lead until the end but lost the title in the last minutes.
On 30th June 2010, Diego switched to Atletico Mineiro. For the club, he made 28 appearances and scored five goals.
In 2011, Souza was sold to Vasco da Gama for $1.2 million. For the Vasco, he first appeared in the match against a local rival Botafogo. There he caught in eyes for scoring the first goal in the 2x win.
On 8th June, his team became the winner of the Brazilian Cup along with his Vasco team. Giving his finest performance in the Brazil Cup in the game against Avai Vasco 0x2 in the semi-final of the match his team reached the final. Till 2012, he appeared in 41 times and scored 14 goals.
On 10th July 2012, Diego signed a three-year deal with Saudi's Professional League club, Al-Ittihad Jeddah. He started with the club by an impressive game. Throughout his Al Ittihad career, he scored three goals; sadly, one was own goal. He also played on a 3-0 win against Al-Ettifaq.
In July 2013, Souja transferred to Metalist Kharkiv with a transfer amount of €4 million. In 2014, he expressed his wish to return to Brazil to enter to the "2014 pro-Russian unrest," in Ukraine. On September 2014, he was loaned to Brazilian club Sport Recife.
In 2016, he signed a contract to “Fluminense;" however, he didn’t make any appearance at the club.
After a short spell with Fluminense, Souza returned to Sport Recife.
Diego Souza was a part of Brazil U-17 and Brazil U-20. As a U-20 team, he played twice in “2005 FIFA World Youth Championship." In 2009, he joined the Brazil national football team.
On 11th October 2009, he made his debut for the national team against the “Bolivia national football team." In June 2017, he scored his first international goal after 11 seconds of starting time, in a 4-0 victory against Australia.
Firstly, talking about his relationship status, he is married. He tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Luciana Lunes Comes. Now, the couple has two children, a beautiful daughter, Manuela Souza, and a son, David Souza.
