The Costa Rica National football team represents Costa Rica in the international football competitions and is handled by Costa Rican Football Federation. It is the most successful nation in Central America having won 3 CONCACAF Championships and eight Copa Centroamericana championships.
Costa Rica has played four World Cup editions so far and has qualified for the 5th which is the best among the Central America nations. They produced their best result in the world cup in 2014 in which they stood first in the group which included the other three former Champions Uruguay, Italy and England. They were able to reach the quarterfinals on that edition.
Costa Rica currently ranks 21 in the FIFA ranking and their best ever ranking in 13th in 1960. The lowest rank they have ever got is 81 in 1983. Walter Centeno is the most capped Costa Rican player with 137 appearances while Rolando Fonseca is the highest scorer of the team with 47 goals. The team is currently managed by Óscar Ramírez and Bryan Ruiz is their current captain.Costa Rica qualified for the 2018 World Cup as the CONCACAF Runner-Up only behind Mexico.
