Broughton attended Veterans High School in Warner Robins, Georgia, where he was a three-star recruit and a two-time all-state selection. He committed to Cincinnati over offers from Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and others. He played for the Cincinnati Bearcats from 2015 to 2018, earning first-team All-AAC honors as a senior.

During his college career, he appeared in 50 games and recorded 156 tackles, 26.5 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and four pass deflections. He led the team with 18.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in 2018. He also participated in the 2019 East-West Shrine Game, where he impressed scouts with his quickness and strength.

From Draft Pick to Free Agent in Two Years

Broughton was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers as the 242nd overall pick in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Following his selection, he inked a four-year contract valued at $2.6 million, along with a $75,000 signing bonus. He made his NFL debut during Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins, registering one tackle.

Later, he re-joined the Chargers in 2020 but did not get the chance to take the field. Subsequently, he was waived by the Chargers on August 31, 2021, as part of the final roster cuts.

Kansas City Chiefs

On September 3, 2021, Broughton joined the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad. During the season, he primarily remained on the practice squad, apart from a brief period on the active roster in Week 6, when he was elevated for the game against the Buffalo Bills.

Despite this elevation, he did not participate in the game and reverted to the practice squad afterward. On February 2, 2022, he secured a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs but was later waived on July 27, 2022, due to a failed physical. He subsequently re-joined the practice squad on September 27, 2022, before being released on October 11.
