Charles Bassey is a five-star Nigerian basketball who is currently playing for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers of the Conference USA. He started playing college basketball for St. Anthony Catholic High School and later at Aspire Basketball Academy as a junior.

Charles Bassey was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on October 28, 2000. He lived with his father, Akpan Ebong Bassey, as his mother died when he was 14 years old. He holds a Nigerian nationality but later moved to the United States. He stands 6 feet 11 inches tall with a weight of 235 lb (107 kg).

Basketball Career and Stats

Bassey started playing basketball at the age of 14 when a youth basketball coach discovered him. Later, he was named the MVP of the basketball camp Giants of Africa, a Toronto Raptors program.

In his junior session, he completed his season averaging 20.2 points, 17.1 rebounds, and 5.9 blocks per game, making the Freshman All-American First-Team. Similarly, he played in the international game in April 2016, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Starting his sophomore session, he was named the All-USA preseason boys basketball team. In January 2017, at the Mike Miller Classic against Washington  High School, he averaged 25 points, 12 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 3 assists. He started playing for Aspire Basketball Academy in Louisville while attending school at DeSales at his junior session.

In a win against Arkansas, he broke his tibia and had to undergo surgery which ended his sophomore session. Later, he returned to his junior season and was named the Conference USA Player of the Year while repeating as the league's Defensive Player of the Year.

Charles could not play for his team, Western Kentucky, as he suffered from an unexpected tragedy. In the second round of matches between WKU and Arkansas, he was down and did not return.

After doing tests, medical members found that he got a tibial plateau fracture in his left knee. After this test, the medical team took him for surgery, and he will not be able to join his team this season.
