Barcelona's new captain Lionel Messi addressed the Camp Nou ahead of Joan Gamper Trophy game against Boca Juniors. He made a traditional speech ahead of the crowd and promised that the club and players will do everything possible to end the dominance of Real Madrid in Champions League.

Real Madrid won all the last three UCL titles with four in last five years.

"This year I think we have a squad that allows us to dream. The new players are going to help us be better than before.", Messi said fans before the kick-off of the pre-season friendly against Boca Juniors.

"Last season was very good because we won the cup and La Liga but the Champions League sticks in our throat, especially given the way we were eliminated."

"We promise you this year we're going to do everything possible so that this beautiful and much sought after cup comes back to the Camp Nou again,"

Messi added. He has won four Champions League title with Barcelona in 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2015.

The five-times Ballon d'Or was appointed the captain of the club following the departure of Andres Iniesta. "We're going to miss the great Andres a lot this year. It's a great honor to be the captain and I know what that means at this club. I was lucky to have great examples like (Carles) Puyol, Xavi, and Andres (Iniesta).", as he expressed his feeling after being made the club's captain.

The Argentine was chosen the man of the match against Boca Juniors where he scored one goal. Barcelona defeated the Argentine club by 3-0 with other goals coming from Rafinha and Malcom. Earlier, Barcelona defeated Sevilla to win the Spanish Super Cup.

They will start their La Liga campaign with the match against Alaves on Saturday.

Some days back, Messi decided to take a break from the international football won't feature in the friendly match until the unspecified time.
