Armando Tommy Enrique Cooper Whitaker, commonly known as Armando Cooper is a Panamanian football midfielder for Chilean Primera Division side Universidad de Chile. He made his career debut with Arabe Unido and played for various clubs such as Godoy Cruz, Otelul Galati, FC St. Pauli, and Toronto FC.

At the age of nineteen, he made his international debut for the Panama national team and had been capped 93 times with seven goals since then.

Armando Cooper's Club career

At 18, Cooper began footballing in the youth ranks of Arabe Unido. The following year, he was promoted up to the senior team of the club and made his debut for the professional side, and went on to help the club to earn several domestic titles in the Liga Panameña de Fútbol.

In January 2011 it was reported that New York Red Bulls were interested in signing Cooper. Nonetheless, the contract did not go through.

In July 2011, Cooper penned to the Argentine First Division side Godoy Cruz.

In February 2015, he moved to FC St. Pauli, only to return to his former club Árabe Unido in September 2015 after playing seven matches for the German club.

On 18th August 2016, Cooper was loaned to Toronto FC. His first goal for the Toronto FC came against in 7-5 on aggregate to advance to the 2016 MLS Cup Final.

Subsequently, after the 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs, Cooper signed with Toronto FC on a permanent basis.

On 14th December 2017, Cooper's contract option was degenerated by Toronto, and he left the club.

Armando Cooper's International career

Armando Cooper has represented his national side at junior and senior level. He was a team member of Panama under 20 and 23 national teams.

On 7th October 2006, Cooper made his international debut for Panama senior squad against El Salvador. His first goal for his side came on 16th January 2011, in a 2–0 triumph against Nicaragua in a 2011 Copa Centro Americana match played at Estadio Rommel Fernández in Panama City.

In May 2018, his name was included in Panama’s preliminary 35 man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup along with his teammates Alex Rodriguez, Valentin Pimentel, and Luis Tejada.

Currently thirty, Armando Cooper is married to Keyla Cedeno. The lovely couple welcomed their second baby girl, Amaia Lucia Cooper, on 17th April 2017, and their first daughter, Jinielys Arianne Cooper, is now eight years old.

In an interview with MUJER, Keyla spoke much about Cooper. She said that off the court, he is an ordinary person: very humble, simple, and friendly. Also added, as a dad, Cooper is protective, loving and consenting; as a husband, he is attentive and affectionate.  

Although the family home is in Panama, Keyla and two daughters move with Cooper to the country where he is playing.
