Amadou Haidara is a Malian professional footballer who is signed to the Bundesliga side RB Leipzig as a midfielder. Turned full international in 2017, he has earned 22 caps with two goals for Mali national team.
Bamako, Mali native, Amadou Haidara was born on 31st January 1998, under the star sign Aquarius. He holds a Malian nationality and is of African ethnic background. He stands 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) tall.
It all started when Mamadou Wad who is the coach of JMG Academy Bamako discovered Amadou Haidara playing on the streets of Bamako. Wad said, "‘He played for fun with a group of boys, I saw that he had many qualities, I liked the way he played. So I talked to him at the end of the game and asked him to come to the academy.’
Still a young boy, Haidara was playing football without his father’s knowledge and also didn’t take Wad’s proposal seriously. It was three months until Amadou finally gathered the courage to come to the JMG academy and showcase his skills in front of the watchful eyes of Jean-Marc Guillou.
An academic product of JMG Academy Bamako, Haidara was signed by FC Red Bull Salzburg in July 2016. Soon, he was loaned to the club's farm team, the second league side FC Liefering. Also, he played for the FC Red Bull Salzburg U-19 team in the UEFA Youth League where he scored two goals versus FK Vardar.
In the third round of the 2016–17 league, he made his first appearance against LASK Linz, substituting Gideon Mensah after the halftime break and scored his first goal in the 48th minute for Liefering. During the 2017–18 season, Salzburg had their best ever European campaign, making their first-ever appearance in the UEFA Europa League semi-final.
Haidara played in the Europa League semi-finals as Olympique de Marseille played out a 1–2 away loss but a 3–2 aggregate win to secure a place in the 2018 UEFA Europa League Final on 3rd May 2018.
On 22nd December 2018, Haidara moved to the German club, RB Leipzig. On 30th March 2019, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 5–0 victory against Hertha BSC.
In the 2020-21 season, on 8 December 2020, he scored his first Champions League goal in a 3–2 victory against Manchester United.
Amadou Haidara played 7 matches with two goals for Mali U17. Also, he reprsented Mali U20 apperaing 3 games.
On 6th October 2017, he made his senior debut for the Mali national football team in a 2018 World Cup qualification tie against Ivory Coast.
