Alex Song is a Cameroonian professional footballer who most recently played as a defensive midfielder for a Swiss club Sion. Club Career

Song joined the Bastia youth team in 2003–04 and became a part of the first team the following season with 31 appearances and was highly appreciated for his efforts. He started playing as a center-back but later made several appearances as a defensive midfielder. He was sent on a loan to English club Arsenal. He officially switched to Arsenal in June of 2006. He was in Arsenal for seven long years appearing in 143 games scoring 7 goals.

He was further traded by the Spanish Club FC Barcelona in 2012. Song signed a five-year contract with Barcelona for a £15 million transfer fee on 20 August 2012. He made his debut with the club coming as a substitute against Real Madrid in the 2012 Supercopa de Espana. He won 39 caps for Barcelona scoring a goal.

He further went to West Ham United on a season-long loan 30 August 2014 and made his debut against Hull City on 15 September 2014. He played 40 games for the club without a goal.

In July 2016, Rubin Kazan reached an agreement to sign Song from Barcelona. On 1 August 2016, Song officially joined the Russian side on a free transfer after his contract with Barcelona was terminated. Sog then moved to Swiss side Sian in 2018 and plays for the club since then.

International Career

He made his professional debut with Cameroon in 2005 and was further selected for the 2008 African Cup of Nation. He was and was the only Cameroonian named in the Team of the Tournament in the 2010 African Cup Of Nation. He represented his national side in the 2010 World Cup South Africa.

On 6 January 2015, Song announced his international retirement, aged 27 and earning 49 caps.
