Peterson returned to play for the team the following season and ended the season with 327 carries, 1,482 rushing yards, and 11 touchdowns. He was selected for the fourth time as a First-Team All-pro and was also picked for career Pro Bowl making it his seventh appearance. He was released of his 2017 optional contract by the Vikings on February 2017 making him a free agent.
Peterson was picked by the New Orleans Saints in April of 2017. He signed a $7 million contract for two years which included a $2.5 million signing bonus. On his first game with the team, he had to face his former team the Minnesota Vikings and lost with a score of 29-19. In that game, Dalvin Cook broke the team record previously held by Peterson.
Peterson was traded to the Arizona Cardinal in October of 2017. Though he showed some impressive performance during the start of the season, he was sidelined for two weeks due to a neck injury. Adrian Peterson finished his 2017's season with 529 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, 11 reception and 70 receiving yards which were a poor performance compared to his past achievements.
