Real Madrid has re-signed Mariano Diaz from Lyon with the transfer of £33m on a five-year deal to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 25-year-old striker will return to the former club as the club's first major signing since the departure of the Portuguese star. Mariano was signed by Lyon a year back for €8 million after playing 4 seasons with Los Blancos' youth setup and a season with the senior team.

The Spanish born Dominican striker was brilliant for the Ligue 1 side having scored 21 goals in 45 appearances for Lyon in 14 months period.

Mariano was a star player of the Real Madrid youth team. He played 46 matches for Real Madrid C scoring 18 goals. His desire to play for the senior team turned to reality after he scored 32 goals in 44 matches for Real Madrid B team.

He played 8 matches for the senior team and scored 1 goal in the process.

He will be presented as a Real Madrid player at the Bernabeu on August 31.

Earlier as reported by Goal, Sevilla were interested in signing the former Real Madrid youth team player but their attempt turned into a dream after Real Madrid joined the race.

Lyon are in process to sign Celtic striker Moussa Dembele in replacement for Mariano.
