The Portugal national football team represents Portugal in the international football competitions and is handled by Portuguese Football Federation. The home stadium of the team is Estádio Nacional.

Portugal has appeared in 7 world cups so far. They first took part in 1966 in which they were able to secure 3rd position after the influence of Eusébio. They have not been able to reach the semifinals since then. Portugal has played 7 European Championships are the Champions of 2016. They first played Euro Cup in 1984 and played the finals of 2004.

Portugal currently ranks 3rd in the FIFA ranking which is their best ever result and have reached the position on other occasions too. Their worst ranking ever is 43 in 1998. The current team captain Cristiano Ronaldo is the team’s highest scorer and the highest capped player with 79 goals in 147 appearances.

The team is managed by Fernando Santos and Ronaldo is the team captain. They qualified for the 2018 world cup as the group B winners on the Euro qualification ahead of Switzerland.
