Samuel Eto’o Responds To Lionel Messi Potential Exit- ‘If Messi leaves, we’ll have to change Barcelona’s name’ Soccer

Lionel Messi has recently hinted that he could leave Barcelona FC in the summer following their brutal loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Amidst Messi's exit rumors, the former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o recently said that the club will have to change its name if the Argentine decides to leave.

Messi and Barcelona's sporting director Eric Abidal are not in good terms form some time and also had a heated argument after the club's former coach Ernesto Valverde was sacked. Messi along with her teammates was humiliated after they faced a unmerciful 8-2 loss against Bayern Munich. The Argentine's contract will expire in summer and reports claim that he has asked club's official to let him leave in the summer.

Responding to the situation, the former Barcelona and Cameroonian striker Eto’o said that the Spanish side will have to do "everything possible to ensure he finishes his career at Barcelona."

"I love Messi like he was my own son, I want the best for him. Barcelona is Messi and I think if Messi decides to leave, we'll have to change the name of the club. We are lucky in that at Barcelona, we have the best player in the world and of all time, we have to do everything possible to ensure he finishes his career at Barcelona."

Eto'o said.

"I really suffered myself with that defeat, not just for Leo, but for all of the lads," the ex-Cameroon international said. Someone who has never played the game will find it hard to understand, but these things exist in football -- and in life too. Anyone can suffer a fall but you have to get up again and that is the most difficult part. The players, the bosses, the fans... I hope that we can lift ourselves up from this and begin to dream again for next season."

He added.

Barcelona has decided to make huge changes in their management as they recently fired head coach Quique Setien and sporting director Abidal. The vacant coaching position will now be taken by Ronald Koeman.
