Cory Spangenberg was born on March 16, 1991, in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania to parents Ken Spangenberg and Lynne Spangenberg. As per his nationality, he is American and belongs to the White ethnic group. Further, his star sign is Pisces. He grew up along with his siblings, Zach, Heather, and Kenny.

He led the Abington Heights Comets varsity baseball team during his senior year to a state championship of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class AAA. In 2010, Spangenberg attended the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and played VMI Keydets college baseball. He was named the freshman of the year for the Big South Conference.

Cory Spangenberg Started Playing For San Diego In 2011.

In the first round, with the 10th overall selection, the San Diego Padres selected Spangenberg from the 2011 MLB Draft. The Padres on September 1, 2014, promoted Spangenberg to the Major Leagues.  

In 2015, Spangenberg made the Opening Day roster for the Padres as a bench player, making occasional second and third appearances. By June 2015, Spangenberg started to gain playing time due to Jedd Gyorko's struggles.
