2022 FIFA World Cup Stadiums In Qatar Soccer

Qatar has announced to host all of the 2022 World Cup matches in its eight beautiful and newly built stadiums. As per the FIFA officials, the opening match will be held in Al Bayt Stadium with a capacity of 60,000, and the final match will be played in Lusail Stadium, the largest stadium with a total seat of 80,000. Six of the stadiums have a capacity of 40,000.

Venues for the 2022 Qatar World Cup

Lusail Stadium

It is the largest stadium in Qatar, with 80,000 seats. Construction of the stadium started in 2017, and it took four years for the stadium to be completed, slightly longer than planned. The official opening of the stadium is planned for 2022. The stadium is located on the northern edge of Doha on the Persian Gulf coast, roughly 20 kilometers from central Doha and 9 kilometers from The Pearl.

Al Bayt Stadium

Al Bayt Stadium, also known as Al Khor Stadium, is one recently opened new stadium. The stadium officially opened on 30 November 2021 with a first-round group match between Qatar and Bahrein during the 2021 Arab Cup. It is the second-largest stadium for the World Cup, with roughly 60,000 seats, divided over three tiers. Al Khor City is located on the Persian Gulf, roughly 40 kilometers north of Doha.

Al Janoub Stadium 

Al Janoub Stadium is also known as Al Wakrah Stadium. It is among a few stadiums solely built for the 2022 World Cup games. The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 seats. The stadium lies about 5 kilometers east of the central Souq coast in Al Wakrah.

Al Rayyan Stadium

Al Rayyan is also known as Al Rayyan Stadium. The Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium officially opened on 18 December 2020 with the Amir Cup Final between Al-Sadd and Al-Arabi. Al Rayan holds a similar capacity to other venues like AL Janoub and Khalida International Stadium, with 40,000 seats. Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is located in the suburb of Al Rayyan on the eastern edge of the Doha metropolitan area. You can easily reach the stadium from central Doha by metro.

Khalifa International Stadium 

Khalifa International Stadium was built in 1976 and has hosted numerous international matches. It has been the standard playing venue of the Qatar national team. This stadium has a capacity of 40,000 for the World Cup and will be reduced to less in the future. It is located west of Doha, roughly 10 kilometers from central Doha.

Education City Stadium 

Education City Stadium is also known as Qatar Foundation Stadium. It opened in 2020 and is located in the Education City complex, where multiple local and foreign universities and research institutes are based. The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 seats and will be reduced in half to 20,000 seats after the 2022 World Cup. Education City is located in the northwest of Doha, roughly 14 kilometers from central Doha.

Stadium 974

Stadium 974 was previously named Ras Abu Aboud Stadium. The stadium is made of modular building blocks, including shipping containers. And will be dismantled and sent to developing countries to make new stadiums. 974 is given as 974 shipping containers were used in the design. It holds a total of 40,000 seats for the World Cup. Stadium 974 is located on the shore of the Gulf in the east of Doha near the Port and Hamad International Airport and less than two kilometers away from the National Museum of Qatar.

Al Thuamama Stadium

Al Thumama Stadium is one of the newly built stadiums for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. It was opened in late 2021 with the 49th Amir Cup Final between Al-Sadd and Al-Rayyan. The stadium can hold 40,000 fans for the match. Al Thumama Stadium is located south of Doha, about 7 kilometers south of central Doha.
