Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was eligible for free agency in 2015. Guerrero Jr. signed with Toronto on July 2, 2015, for $3.9 million at age 16. Junior made his professional basketball debut with the Rookies Advance Bluefield Blue Jays.

Toronto Blue Jays decided to assign Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the minor league to prevent him from becoming eligible to free agency. On January 24, 2017, MLB named Guerero Jr. the third-best prospect at third base heading into the 2017 minor season league. In (Minor League Baseball) MiLB 2017 season, Guerrero Jr. Class-A Lansing lugnuts. Vladimir finished the 2017 regular season with a .323 batting average, 13 home runs, and 76 RBI in 119 games. 

On July 28, 2018, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was promoted to the triple-A Buffalo Bison.
