Tommy Lasorda is a former American baseball pitcher who is perhaps known for his two-decade-long service as a manager for Los Angeles Dodgers. As a player, he had spells with Brooklyn Dodgers and Kansas City Athletics. He was also inducted into National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1997.

 

Currently, ninety-one years old, Lasorda is married and blessed with two children. As of now, his net worth is approximately $15 million.

His other sources of income include his incomes from his food company and working in numerous film and TV series.

His annual salary as Dodgers' manager in 1987 was reported to be $500,000. He was the second-highest paid manager of that time only behind Reds' Pete Rose. He was later giver 1-year contract extension with the 43% increment in $575,000 to $800,000 in 1992.

Tommy Lasorda’s Married, Wife, and Personal Life

Tommy Lasorda has been married to his wife, Jo Lasorda for 68 years. The couple tied the knot in 1950 and has two children: a son, Tom Lasorda Jr, and daughter, Laura Lasorda.

Their son, Tom Jr died of AIDs and was reported to be gay but  Tommy denied this claim and insisted his son died due to cancer, not AIDS.

Furthermore, he is a godfather to Major League Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza's younger brother Thomas Piazza and Arizona Diamondbacks' catcher Alex Avila.

He had a minor heart attack and was hospitalized at the age of 84 in 2012.

Tommy Lasorda’s Bio and Early

Tommy Lasorda was born to Italian parents, mother, Carmella Lasorda, and father, Sabatino Lasorda on September 22, 1927. He holds an American nationality and is of white ethnicity. Hs star sign is Virgo.  

He was interested in baseball since his early childhood and briefly served in the United States Army. The left-hander pitcher then signed with the American baseball team, Philadelphia Phillies in 1945.

Tommy later joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1949 and after playing for several years in the minor league, he made to the big league in 1954. He enjoyed his playing stint with Dodgers for a year and joined  Kansas City Athletics in 1956 where he ended his career.

Tommy Lasorda’s Professional Career

He later became a scout for Dodgers and later returned to the big leagues as a third base coach and was the successor to then manager, Walter Alston in 1976.

Tommy helped the team to appear at the World Series in 1977 and 1978. He won his first World Series championship as a manager for Dodgers.

He later led the team to another win in 1988, following a heart attack and Ulcer in 1996, he retired from the team in 1996 with an impressive managerial record of  National League titles eight times and NL pennants 4 times.

His other accolades include winning the manager of the year which was voted by Baseball Writers Association twice.

Because of his exceptional performance and Tommy humble demeanor and respect to all his players, he was elected baseball’s highest honor, the Baseball Hall of Fame.

After which he served as a vice president of Dodger as well as general manager of the team in the 1990s. He later becomes a special adviser to the team after the club came under new Management.

He was selected to be the official ambassador of World Baseball Classic in 2006 and 2009.

Lasorda and another Dodgers legend Vin Scully celebrated the victory of Dodgers after they secured the place in the World Series after 30 years since 1988. He also clearly denied to vote Dodgers' pitcher Clayton Kershaw for NL MVP.
