Zhou Qi was born to Zhou Jianwei on January 16, 1996, in Xinxiang, Henan, China. His father and mother both were tall with the height of 6ft 5 and 5ft 11.5 inches respectively.

He first caught the notice of Chinese talent scout when he led China to win the TBF International U 16 Tournament in 2011.
