Yair Rodriguez is a Mexican mixed martial artist who currently competes for the Featherweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He joined UFC in 2014 and over the course of four years, has reportedly made $533,500 from the various fights.

Yair Raziel Rodriguez Portillo was born on October 6, 1992, in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico. He is the son of Rigoberto Rodriguez Olivas and Norma Alicia Portillo. He has two siblings; a brother and a sister.

He started practicing Taekwondo at the age of 5. At a young age, he learned to skills such as taking care of animals, how to ride horses, and how to grow plants.

Yair Rodriguez's professional debut as a mixed martial artist was in October of 2011 when he competed for regional promotions in Mexico. On his first fight, he faced Jonathan Guzman who he defeated via unanimous decision. He continued his career in mixed martial arts and fought Carlos Ricardo in The Supreme Cage Fighting 1 which he won via submission.

On December 12, 2012, at Mexican Fighter Promotions 13, Rodriguez faced Edgar Juarez. Juarez defeated Rodriguez giving him the taste of the first loss in his career. In the fight that followed, Rodriguez faced Luis Roberto Herrera and lost via KO.

After two straight losses, Yair Rodriguez pulled himself together and defeated Edgar Juarez at Mexican Fighter Promotions 14 on February 16, 2013. He put down Juarez with a flying knee winning the fight with a KO. He was pitted against Angelo Durante on April 4, 2014, at NP- High Altitude Face Off 6. Rodriguez came out victorious in the fight winning with a submission.

Yair Rodriguez was announced to be a cast member of the Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, competing for Team Velasquez in May 2014. His contract and salary details were not disclosed.  In the show, he defeated competitors like Humberto Brown and Rudolfo Rubio to reach the finals.

On November 15, 2014, Yair Rodriguez made his official debut at UFC. He faced Leonardo Morales in the featherweight finals at UFC 180. He defeated Morales with a unanimous decision and made his official start at UFC with a win.

Rodriguez and Alex Caceres faced each other on August 6, 2016, at UFC Fight Night 92. Although Rodriguez won the fight with a split decision, both fighters were awarded Fight of the Night Honors.

Yair Rodriguez and the returning veteran B.J. Penn were put in the octagon on January 15, 2017, at UFC Fight Night 103. Rodriguez won the fight via TKO in the second round after landing a front kick and following it with punches. He won a Performance of the Night bonus for the fight. He had eight straight winning streak stats after the win.

The winning streak record of Rodriguez was put to an end by Frankie Edgar on May 13, 2017, at UFC 211. Edgar defeated Rodriguez via TKO after the doctor stopped the fight due to a sustained injury that led to swelling on his left eye.

It was reported that Yair Rodriguez had been released from the organization on May 10, 2018, after refusing two fights in the featherweight division. However, three weeks later, he announced things to have been worked out and that he was still with the organization.  For his next fight, he is scheduled to face Chang Sung Jung on November 10, 2018, at UFC Fight Night 139, replacing for the injured Frankie Edgar.

Yair is scheduled to fight Jeremy Stephens at Fight Night 159 on September 22, 2019.
