Weight Cutting Can Do A Serious Harm: Johny Hendricks Said My kidneys shut down’ after the last time I fought at 170, In The MMA Hour MMA

Weight Cutting can do a serious harm, and it's an undeniable fact. Johny Hendricks,  a former welterweight champion who is set to fight a Bellator MMA fighter Brennan Ward in a bare-knuckle fight in a podcast with The MMA Hour said that he supports IV use after players cut weight, which will come to effect immediately and shared his experience where his kidneys shut off after his last UFC fight.

Hendricks on a live podcast with reporter Luke Thomas told that he is a bigger welterweight fighter and has walked around 210 lbs or 215 lbs, his entire life and after UFC and USADA took a decision over the use of IV's, Hendricks said that decision was hard on him.

He admitted that his Kidneys shut off after his last fight against Neil Magny at UFC 207 in December 2016.

He wasn't saying that he supported PED's but instead, IV users are checked the time and again but banning IV's that provide right supplements to your system when you are trying to dehydrate, sweat and make weight for the fight, anything could happen to you at the very moment, so IV's shouldn't be banned. The whole banning over IV thing has affected the player's lives directly and that as per Johny was the reason for his retirement from UFC.

Hendricks on the Podcast said:

“After the last time I fought at 170, my kidneys shut down, I ballooned out. So, let’s see, I fought on Saturday. On Sunday night I got home, I was 219, and I blew up like a balloon. My doctor was like, ‘Hey, you need to go to the hospital.’ I was like, I know exactly what’s going on, my kidneys shut down. And I guess it went on for about four or five days"

The Former WW Champ Further added

“On Thursday, they rebooted, and whenever that happened, I went from 219 to 199 in like 24 hours, and I didn’t work out or nothing. That’s when I was like, ‘You know what, I’m going to kill myself.”

Advocating to IV use and suggesting UFC to bring the IV use back into trends, Johny further went on to say:

“And that’s the thing, with IVs, the damage that you do by cutting weight, it helps you not kill yourself, because like I said, all that stuff that’s important to your body, you can’t get it back in 36 hours,” Hendricks explained. “You can’t get it back in 48 hours.” “But with an IV, it goes straight into your veins, it goes straight into your muscles, in your organs, and it sends [everything] exactly where it needs to for you to recover the best you can. That’s why in every sport, what do they do? In every sport, if you’re hurting or you’re this or you’re that they give you IVs.”
