He was drafted at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Hurricanes in the third-round, 67th overall. On March 31, 2017, Foegele agreed to an entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Foegele began the 2017–18 season with the Charlotte Checkers affiliate of the Hurricane in AHL. He was first called to the NHL on March 25, 2018. The next day, Foegele played against the Ottawa Senators in his first NHL game.
