Victoria Azarenka is a Belarusian professional tennis player and former number one woman tennis player in the world. She won the Australian Open twice and was first-ever woman tennis player of Belarus to win the Grand Slam title.

The couple split up in 2017 but got involved in the legal custody of their son. Due to the case, she missed the US Open 2017 and rest of the tournament in the same year.

It was known that in early 2018, she won the initial round of the custody, however, a county judge of Los Angeles ruled the couple custody case should be solved in Belarus rather than in the USA.

Victoria Azarenka‘s Bio and Early Life

Victoria Azarenka is of Belarusian nationality. She was born to mother, Alla, and father, Fedar Azarenka on July 31, 1989, in Minsk, Belarus. She also has an older brother named Max.

She started playing tennis at the age of 7 and at the age of 15 moved to the USA to pursue her tennis career. During her childhood, she grew up watching Steffi Graf who she calls her idol.

Victoria Azarenka’s Professional Career

Azarenka's major professional career started in 2003 and she won the Australian and US junior open in 2005. Later she won her first ITF Women Circuit and moved up the ranking in the tennis world.

She had a memorable win against Serena Williams at the Sony Ericsson Open in the final to lift the title. In the other edition of the tournament, she defeated Jelena Jankovic in the first game but faced loss to Caroline Wozniacki in the other.

She became the first Grand Slam winner when she defeated Maria Sharapova in the last round of the Australia Open singles in 2012. Following the performance, she reached the number one spot in the women’s ranking in 2012.

She also bronzes medal for Belarus at 2012  Summer Olympics.

After several memorable performances at the tennis circuit, she took a temporary leave in 2016 from tennis due to her pregnancy. She made her return in the minor tournaments in 2017 and 2018 but failed to make an impression.

At the 2019 Wimbledon, Azarenka lost in the third round (6-3, 6-1) to the eventual winner, Simona Halep.
