UFC Releases Roman Bogatov after Multiple Illegal Strikes at his Debut Loss in Fight Island MMA

Roman Bogatov's dream to become a UFC champion has apparently ended after just 1 fight in the octagon. TAAS reported on Friday that the fighter has been released by the UFC after Multiple Illegal Strikes in Fight Island bout.

Starting his UFC career with the MMA record of 10-0, the former M-1 Global lightweight champion made his UFC debut at UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi against Leonardo Santos and lost via unanimous decision. The decision came against his favor after he used prohibited blows during the fight.

The Kazakhstani lightweight landed two low blows for which he was warned and again struck a downed Santos in the head with an illegal knee for which he has deducted 2 points by referee Marc Goddard.

Bogatov later confirmed the news and said:

“Yes, they told me today they had terminated the contract".

He is the third fighter to be released by the UFC after Ray Borg and Eric Spicely. He has yet not revealed where he will fight now but could possibly return to M-1 Global.
