Todd Andrew McLellan or else known as Todd McLellan is a former Canadian professional Ice hockey player and current (NHL) coach. Todd is a Stanley Cup-winning coach for Detroit Red Wings. Other than that, he coached San Jose Sharks (2008–2015) and his most recent coaching career was with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League (NHL).

 

Todd was drafted by the New York Islanders in 1986 as it's tenth overall picks in 1987 as a left-handed central midfielder but he played only 5 games with the major league club in 1987–88 season and retired from NHL following his recurring injuries.

Todd McLellan Early Life and Playing Career

Former NHL player Todd McLellan was born on October 3, 1967, in Melville, Saskatchewan, Canada. Todd had a very short-lived NHL and AHL career as a player.  Reportedly McLellan was a good forwarder and was drafted by the New York Islanders in 1986 as it's 10th overall picks in 1987.

He played for Islanders as a left-handed central midfielder but was able to play with the team for a single season only. He appeared in 5 games with the major league club in 1987–88 season and retired from NHL following his recurring shoulder injuries. Todd McLellan scored his only NHL goal in his debut match against New Jersey Devils on December 28, 1987, where Islanders fell two goals short in a 6-4 loss.

Todd McLellan after his short-lived (two seasons long) career in AHL with Springfield Indians, returned home and studied for a year at the University of Saskatchewan. Afterward, he played in the Netherlands for S.IJ. Utrecht of the Eredivisie. During his SIJ days, McLellan transitioned from being a player to becoming a player-coach and discovered his interest in a coaching career.

The club hired Ken Hitchcock to replace Mclellan and a day after the whole incident, on 21st November, Hitchcock led Oilers' team was able to register their first win over San Jose Sharks after five losses in 2018's season.
