Steven Gerrard is an English professional football coach and former professional footballer. He last played for Liverpool and currently serves as an academy coach at Liverpool.

The 37 years old former Liverpool captain spent most of his career as a midfielder for Liverpool and shortly in LA Galaxy. He has an estimated net worth of $60 million in 2017.

Early Life

Steven Gerrard was born on May 30, 1980, in Whiston, Merseyside, England and his full name is Steven George Gerrard. His parents are Paul Gerrard and Julie Ann Gerrard and has a brother named Paul Gerrard. He is of English nationality.

He attended Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School and played football at his local club Whiston Juniors. He then joined Liverpool Academy at the age of nine.

Club Career

Steven Gerrard began his footballing career with Liverpool signing his first professional contract with the club on 5 November 1997. He made his Liverpool first-team debut on 29 November 1998 in a Premier League match against Blackburn Rovers. He began to regularly startup for his team combining with Jamie Redknapp in central midfield in the 1999–2000 season. He slowly developed himself as the key player for his team. He was named the vice-captain of the team in 2002 and after a year, he was announced as the Liverpool captain in October 2003.

He played his 250th match as Liverpool captain on August 18, 2012. He was in the club for 17 years appearing in 504 games and scoring 120 goals. Steven Gerrard is regarded as the legend of the club. He then moved to the American top club LA Galaxy on 7 January 2015, signing to an 18-month Designated Player contract, reportedly worth $9 million. He made his debut for the club on July 11, 2015, in a friendly match against Club America. He won 34 caps for the club scoring 5 goals and announced his retirement from professional football career on 24 November, at 36.

International Career

Steven Gerrard made his international debut representing his national side against Ukraine on 31 May 2000. He scored his first international goal in the famous 5–1 victory over Germany in a 2002 World Cup qualifier in 2001. He participated in his first World Cup in 2006 scoring two goals. He was announced as his international side captain in 2010.

Gerrard represented England 114 times and is the fourth most capped player for the country. Some of his teammates of that time were Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard etc. He announced his retirement from international football on 21 July 2014.

Personal Life

Steven Gerrard is a married man; he got married to his longtime girlfriend Alex Curran; an English model and fashion columnist for the Daily Mirror on 16 June 2007, in a Catholic ceremony in Wymondham. The couple together has four children, daughters Lilly-Ella, Lexie, Lourdes, and son Lio. 

He is the Member of the Order of the British Empire honored by Queen Elizabeth II in her New Year Honours List, for services to sport. He published his autobiography named, Gerrard: My Autobiography, ghost-written by journalist Henry Winter, which went on to win the Sports Book of the Year award at the British Book Awards.
