Spencer Dinwiddie was born on April 6, 1993, in Los Angeles, California to parents Malcolm Dinwiddie and Stephanie Dinwiddie. As per his nationality, he is American and belongs to an African-American ethnic group.  Growing up, he had a brother named Taylor Dinwiddie.

Spencer Dinwiddie attended William Howard Taft in Woodland Hills, California where he played for his high school basketball team. He averaged 11.2 points and 7.2 assists in the senior season of high school.

After completing high school, Spencer Dinwiddie enrolled at the University of Colorado and played for the Colorado Buffaloes. He forewent the senior season of college to enter the 2014 NBA Draft. His career average in college was 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

Spencer Dinwiddie's Career

The Detroit Pistons picked Spencer Dinwiddie in the 2014 NBA draft with their 38th overall pick. He signed a three-year deal with the team on July 21, 2014. He made his professional NBA debut on October 29, 2014. He had multiple assignments with the Piston's D-League affiliate the Grand Rapids Drive in his rookie season.

The Pistons traded Dinwiddie to the Chicago Bulls on June 17, 2016, in exchange for Cameron Bairstow. His stay at the team was shortlived as the Bulls waived him on July 7.  The NBA Development League Windy City Bulls acquire Dinwiddie on December 8, 2016.

December 8, 2016, Spencer Dinwiddie was added to the roster of Brooklyn Nets who already had players like Caris LeVert and Joe Harris. On his first season with the team, he played in 59 games and averaged 7.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. He improved his stats, the following season recording an average of 12.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.
