He grew up with his sibling, Nwankwo Chinasa, a nurse and Paschal Nwankwo, a physiotherapist.

Career

Simeon Nwankwo began his career as a youth player at Guo FC. Following this, he played for the Portimonense. He started his professional career with Portimonense in 2011. He later left the club in 2013, after netting 17 goals in 55 appearances.

Nwankwo was transferred to Gil Vicente on 1st July 2013, while his market value was estimated at £405K. Before ending his career in a team, he played 88 games scoring 29 goals.

After a short-spell in Portimonense, he was signed by Crotone on 21st July 2016, in a deal worth £765K. He is in a contract until 30th June 2019, with Crotone.

International Career

On 28th May 2018, he made his international debut with the Nigeria national football team in a 1-1- draw versus the Democratic Republic of the Congo with the coach Gernot Rohr.

FIFA World Cup 2018

In June 2018, Nwankwo was named Nigeria's preliminary 23-man team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.  His team lost their first match against Croatia via 2-0. During the match, Oghenekaro Etebo scored an opening goal in 32nd minute. Following this, Luka Modric netted the second goal leading the team into a 2-0 win.
