Sime Vrsaljko is a professional Croatian football player who plays as a right back for Croatia national team and the Greek football club, Olympiacos.

Besides playing for Athletico Madrid, he has also played for Croatian football clubs such as  Dinamo Zagreb and Lokomotiva as well as Italian football clubs like Genoa and Sassuolo.

He has played for several youth teams in Croatia and made his full international debut for Croatia in 2011. Sime has also represented Croatia at the UEFA Euro 2012 as well as the 2016 and 2014 FIFA World Cup.

After playing for the junior team of Dinamo Zagreb, he joined the main team in 2009  and was part of the team that won the Croatian First League multiple times and the Croatian Cup in the 2011/12 and 2011/12 seasons.

He was transferred to the fellow Croatian football club, Lokomotiva as part of a loan deal in 2009. The Croatian defender was then transferred to the Italian football club, Genoa for a transfer fee of around  €4.6 million in the summer of 2013.

He signed with another Italian football club, Sassuolo for a transfer fee of  €3.5 million with € 2 million in the summer of 2014. Sime played for the Spanish football club, Atletico Madrid with whom he signed a five-year contract in 2016. He was part of the Atletico Madrid that won the UEFA Europa League for the 2017/18 season.

After five seasons with the club, The player eventually moved to Greece and joined Olympiacos. 

Sime Vrsaljko’s International Career

After playing for Croatia in their U 15, U17, U18, U19, U20, and U21, he was initially called by the Croatia national team for Euro 2012 Qualifiers against Malta on 2 November 2010.

He made his full senior international debut for Croatia against the Czech Republic on 9 February 2011. Sime has played at the FIFA major tournaments such as UEFA Euro Cup and FIFA World Cup.

Sime has yet to score an international goal for  Croatia and was included alongside the player such as strikers, Marko Pjaca and defender, Ivan Strinic for 23 men Croatian squad led by the captain, Luka Modric at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
