Shin Tae-Yong is a retired South Korean footballer who commenced his playing career with Seongnam FC and ended his career due to an ankle problem through Queensland Roar FC in 2005.

 

Currently, Tae-yong is the head coach of the South Korean national team and has won 2017 EAFF East Asian Cup.

Seongnam FC

In 1992, Shin moved to Seongnam FC. He played 12 season for the club, amassing 296 game appearances with 76 goals.

Queensland Roar FC

In 2005, Shin was drafted by the Queensland Roar in the Australian A-League competition. At the age of thirty-six, he retired due to an ankle problem.

International Career

Shin was a part of South Korea U-17, U-20, and U-23 national team. In 1992, he made his international debut for the South Korea senior squad. His first international goal for his country came on 30th April 1996, in a 5-4 friendly win against Israel.

He has represented his national side in 1992 Summer Olympics and 1996 AFC Asian Cup.

In 1997, Shin retired from South Korea national team after acquiring 23 caps with three international goals.

Shin Tae-yong's Managerial Career

Following his retirement as a footballer, Shin accepted an assistant coach role at the Queensland Roar FC, assisting Miron Bleiberg mainly with skills coaching. In 2008, he went on to serve at Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma, first as a caretaker. Later, he was assigned as a Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma manager. Under his guideline, the club won the 2010 AFC Champions League.

On 10th February 2015, Shin was appointed a head coach of South Korea U-23 national team. In June 2017, Shin became head coach of the South Korean senior national team after former head coach Uli Stielike was fired. Despite two goalless draws, the South Korean team under Shin obtained qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Shin Tae-yong, 49, stands five feet seven inches tall and weighs around 70 Kg. Moving into his personal life, he is a married man. he tied the knot with his girlfriend Cha Young-ju in 1995 .
