Shin Tae-yong was born on 11th April 1969, in Yeongdeok, Gyeongbuk, South Korea. His birth sign is Aries. Regarding his nationality, he is a South Korean and belongs to Asian ethnicity.

In June 2017, Shin became head coach of the South Korean senior national team after former head coach Uli Stielike was fired. Despite two goalless draws, the South Korean team under Shin obtained qualification to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
