The latest spin bowling sensation in the Associate world, Sandeep Lamichanne who plays for the Nepalese national team. He is the first Nepalese cricketer snapped up by an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract after he received an INR 20 lakhs bid from Delhi Daredevils. He is the less economical bowler of the IPL in 2018. 

 

Sandeep Lamichhane's Net Worth and Endorsement

An aspiring Nepalese cricket star, Lamichhane has an estimated net worth of thirty lakh. He owns a house in Aaruchaur, Talpokhari of Syangja Nepal.

Apart, he gets financials boost through sponsor from Sanima Bank, worth Rs 20,000 a month since July 2016. The two-year deal has run out in July 2018. Also, the former captain of Australia, Michael Clarke, has sponsored Lamichhane, in association with Hublot, the Swiss luxury watchmaker, to train and play in Australia.

At the 2017 Everest Premier League, he was sold with the highest auction fee of Rs 175,000. IPL team Delhi Daredevils picked him with the auction fee of INR 20 lakh. In a match against Chennai Super Kings, he received the Stylish Player of the match award for which he got INR 1 lakh.

In addition, he also receives a monthly salary of about Rs 35,000 from the CAN and gets the same amount from the ICC as a grade A player.

His father, Chandra Narayan Lamichhane serves for the Indian Railways whereas his mother, Kopila Devi, is a homemaker. As a child, he relocated to India and completed his 4th standard there. Lamichhane has two siblings Indu Lamichanne and Mohan Lamichhane.

More, Lamichhane had a keen interest in cricket since his childhood and grown up idolizing cricketer Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar.

Playing Career of Sandeep Lamichhane

Early career

Sandeep Lamichane started off playing cricket at the Chitwan Cricket Academy. At his 14, he was discovered by the Canadian coach Pubudu Dassanayake and picked him for the youth camp, following his impressive bowling skill.

On 16th April 2016, he made his List A debut in the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship. Before his List A debut, Lamichanne was announced for Nepal’s U-19 team for the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup. In the second match of the tournament, he took a hat-trick in the 32nd over Ireland, becoming the 5th bowler to take a hat-trick in the U-19 world cup history. Also, Lamichhane was pronounced man of the match.

Further, in the fifth place playoff match against Pakistan Under-19 squad, he recorded bowling figures of 5/35, and against Namibia, he took bowling figures of 3/35 in the seventh-place playoff match. He concluded the tournament being second highest wicket taker with 14 wickets at an average of 17.07 and 21.9 strike rate.

In September 2016, Lamichhane was offered to join the Sydney-based Western Suburbs Districts Cricket Club by Australian captain, Michael Clarke.

In the Spot Light

In January 2018, Sandeep Lamichhane was named in the list of players for auction in the 2018 IPL. Soon he joined Indian Premier League club side Delhi Daredevils, agreeing on a  ?20 lakhs contract.

In the same month, he was pronounced in Nepal’s team for the 2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. He started the tournament playing against Namibia, where he was awarded man of the match after bowling figures of 4/18 in 8.2 overs. Further, he made his appearances against the United Arab Emirates and Kenya. In the final of the tournament, Nepal recorded 270 with eight wickets, losing by seven runs against the UAE.

In 18th of March 2018, Lamichanne was drafted to play for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in Caribbean Premier League for $5k.

After two months, he made his T20 cricket debut representing Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 Indian Premier League against Royal Challengers Banglore, where he took a wicket for 25 runs. The same month, Lamichhane was also included to the ICC Rest of the World XI team, for the T-20 International match against the West Indies at Lord’s.

He ended his IPL with 5 wickets for 82 runs in 12 overs playing 3 matches. He was even named one of the best young talents in the tournament and was also one of the best IPL debutants. He brought down the batting stars like Suresh Reina, Surya Kumar Yadav, Keiron Pollard etc.

In October 2018, he signed to the Melbourne Stars for the Big Bash League (BBL), becoming the first cricketer from Nepal to play in the BBL. That same month, he was named in the squad for Sylhet Sixers, after the draft for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League.
