Russell Okung was born on October 7, 1988, in Houston, Texas to parents Victor Okung and Dorothy Akpabio. As per his nationality, he is American and belongs to the African ethnic group. Further, his star sign is Libra.

He attended George Bush High School in Fort Bend, where he was an All-Greater Houston first-team and an all-district first-team selection. Okung attended Oklahoma State University where he played from 2006 to 2009 for the football team of coach Mike Gundy's Oklahoma State Cowboys.

The Seattle Seahawks selected Okung 6th overall, making him only the second lineman of the Oklahoma State offensive ever picked up in the first round of an NFL draft, along with John Ward.

He was considered to be a top 5 Left Tackle in the 2012-2013 season among many football analysts, while also contributing to an offense that featured  Max UngerMarshawn Lynch and  Russell Wilson in the Pro Bowl.

After his six-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks ended in 2016, Russell Okung chose to be a free agent in the NFL. On March 17, 2016, Okung signed a one - year deal worth $ 5 million with the Denver Broncos, which included another four-year option of $ 48 million.

Later, Okung signed a $53 million four-year contract with the Los Angeles Chargers on March 9, 2017. Further, he plays along with his star team-mates such as Keenan Allen, Casey Hayward and many more.
