Russel Bodine was born on June 30, 1992, in Woodbridge, Virginia of United States. He is the son of Brian and Gail Bodine. He was a student of Union Military Academy and was named first-team all-stats for two seasons straight during his high school years. He was teammates with Terrance West for a season during his high school years.
After graduating high school, Bodine enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills. He continued with football in his college years as well and during his sophomore year was able to start in all 12 games of the season as the center. Russell Bodine was picked by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round, 111th overall at the 2014 NFL Draft. Bodine signed a four-year, $2.67 million contract including a signing bonus of $456, 456 with the Bengals on May 23, 2014.
Bodine and Trevor Robinson competed against each other for the position of starting center which was vacant after the departure of Kyle Cook. Bodine won the competition and was named the starting center for the Bengals at the end of the training camp.
