Runar Mar Sigurjonsson, at the time, played in the all four division of Iceland football league and after a couple seasons with HK, he joined the Urvalsdeild league club, Valur in 2010.
While playing for Valur he was signed to Dutch football team, PEC Zwolle for a season-long loan deal in 2013 but was injured and could not compete for the Dutch side. He returned back to Valur in 2013 but was not fit enough to play for the team.

Runar Mar Sigurjonsson returned to action on early May 2013 when he was cleared to play for Valur and later was transferred to Swedish football club, GIF Sundsvall who currently at Allsvenskan league, the highest division in Swedish football. He signed with Swedish club in 2013 that will see him play for Sundsvall till 2016.
In 2016, he was transferred to Swiss professional football club, Grasshopper for a transfer fee in the region of €3,50,000 and is currently playing for St Gallen as a loan from Grasshopper.
After having represented the Iceland U-19 and U-21 team, he made his first international match for senior Iceland football team in 2012 and scored his first international goal for Iceland against Andorra in a friendly match on 14 November 2012.
He was a part of Iceland squad alongside players such as Kari Arnason, Hjortur Hermannsson and Birkir Bjarnason that took part in UEFA Euro 2016 where Iceland reach the quarterfinals round of the tournament where they were beaten by France.
