Rodrigo Moreno

Rodrigo Moreno Machado, well recognized as Rodrigo, is a Brazilian-born-Spanish professional footballer currently playing for Valencia CF as a winger or striker. He began his football career with Real Madrid, appearing only for its reserve teams. In 2010 he penned to Benfica with whom he won four titles, remarkably the domestic treble in the 2013–14 season.

 

He is eligible for both Brazil and Spain to represent internationally. But Rodrigo chose Spain and represented Spain at youth level, and was a Spain U-21 team member who won the European Championship. The following year, he made his international debut for Spain national team, appearing for them at the 2018 World Cup.

Rodrigo Moreno was born on 6^th March 1991 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Adalberto Machado and Andréia Moreno Machado. At his early teen, he relocated to Spain along with his parents and sister, Mariana Moreno and settled in Galicia where he eventually began playing organized football with Celta de Vigo.

Real Madrid

After playing some months with Madrid youth team, Rodrigo was promoted up to Madrid’s second reserve team in 2009. The same year, he made his way to Real Madrid B team where he played 2009-10 season, making 18 game appearances with five goals.

Benifica

On 31^st July 2010, Rodrigo arrived at Benfica, signing a five-year contract with Benfica for a reported transfer fee of €6 million.

Bolton Wanderers (loan)

The following month, he was loaned out to Premier League side, Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan deal.  Rodrigo made his first appearance against Wigan Athletic in a 1-1 draw where he entered as a substitute for Lee Chung-Yong, on 23rd October 2010. More, his first goal for the Wanderers came against the same opponent in a 1-1 draw.

During his loan spell with Wanderers, he played 17 matches and scored a goal for the club.

Return to Benfica

Upon his return to Benfica for the 2011-12 season, Rodrigo played 38 game appearances and scored 16 goals.

Loan to Valencia

For the 2014-15 season, Rodrigo was loaned out to Valencia, agreeing to a one-season loan deal. On 23^rd August 2014, he made his Valencia debut in a 1-1 draw against Sevilla.

Valencia

On 15^th June 2015, Rodrigo penned a four-year contract to Valencia for a reported transfer fee of €30 million with the latter until 30^th June 2019.

Rodrigo Moreno's International Career

Rodrigo Moreno has represented Spain both at junior and senior level. He was a part of Spain U19, Spain U20, Spain U21, and Spain U23 national team.

On 3^rd October 2014, Rodrigo made his Spain senior national team debut against Slovakia for UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying, replacing Diego Costa in the 82^nd minutes as well as assisting the 4^th and last goal for Juan Bernat.

Rodrigo was included in Spain’s 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup along with his teammates Pepe Reina, Nacho, and Alvaro Odriozola.
