The former UFC bantamweight contender Ray Borg was recently released by the UFC. ESPN reported that the UFC's official confirmed the news and said that the fighter is no longer in the UFC roster. Despite being cut by the promotion, Ray believes this is not the end, through his recent Instagram post.
The Tazmexican Devil (13-5 MMA, 7-5 UFC) released an emotional statement on Instagram and promised to come back after thanking UFC. Borg wrote:
“I guess it’s time to break some silence. Six wild years with the UFC, I have experienced some highs and lows during this time. Sean Shelby, Mick Maynard, and Dana White have actually treated me insanely good and have given me so many chances to get my shit together and I failed to do so. Over the last two and a half years years my wife and I have gone through so much, so much that most people couldn’t even understand how we get through the day. From our firstborn child being at risk everyday for brain surgery to having to gain custody of a very troubled eight-year-old little girl. Unfortunately, I have let all these struggles affect me during some of the most important times in my career.”
Borg's release came shortly after he withdrew from the fight against Nate Maness that was scheduled for UFC Vegas 5 at the UFC APEX facility. The withdrawal came on the day of weigh-ins with an undisclosed reason. Prior to that he had withdrawn from the bout on several occasions and has also missed weight three times.
Earlier, he also pulled back from the fight against Merab Dvalishvili scheduled for UFC Vegas 2 on June 2. The New Mexico native alluded to “physiological” issues as the reason of his recent withdrawal and wrote:
“I am gutted to part ways with the UFC, but I am also grateful for all the cool experiences I have taken part of over the years. I have some physiological sh*t I need to figure out before I know what my next move is, so this is not a goodbye post but rather a temporary pause until I can come back better.”
