Rafael Carioca was born on 18th June 1989, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as Rafael de Souza Pereira. He holds a Brazilian nationality and Carioca belongs to white ethnicity.
Rafael Carioca began his football career with “Gremi," a Brazilian football club based in Porto Alegra, Rio Grande do Sul. After captaining the youth side in the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior, he was promoted to the first team.

On 23rd of August 2017, Rafael joined “Tigres UANL,” a Mexican football club based in San Nicolas de Los Garza.
Rafael Carioca entered the Brazil national team in 2007. He captained Under-20 and appeared in the Sendai Cup for the Brazil Under-18 national team.
On 22nd of August 2016, he received his first international call-up for the senior team of the Brazil, for matches against Ecuador and Colombia.
