Club career

Following various youth level at FC KR Reykjavik, Kristinsson made his first-team debut in the year 1986. He played overall 8 seasons for the KR, appearing in 126 games and scored 21 goals.

In 1995, Runar was transferred to the Swedish club, Orgryte IS. He played 2 seasons for the club and then was transferred to FC Lillestrom SK of Norway.  Following his three seasons, he moved to K.S.C. Lokeren in Belgium where he was very efficacious. He made 189 appearances and scored 37 goals for Lokeren.

In May 2007, Runar returned to his nation, Denmark to join his former club KR Reykjavik. After playing 14 games, he retired as a football player.

International Career

Runar Kristinsson has represented his national side in both junior and senior level, playing in various tournaments. He was a part of Iceland U17, U19, and U21 national team. In the year 1987, he made his international team debut for Iceland national football team.
