Pontus Jansson’s Bio and Early Life

Pontus Jansson of Swedish nationality was born to Swedish parents on 13 February 1991 in Arlov, Sweden.

He was interested in playing football since his early days and joined the youth rank of Swedish football clubs like Arlovs BI and Malmo FF.

Pontus Jansson’s Professional Career

After playing for the junior team of Malmo FF, he began his senior career with the main team in 2009.

During his stay with the Swedish club, he turned out to be one of the most prominent players in Malmo and was nominated as the defender of the year in 2013 in the Allsvenskan League for his outstanding performances.

The Swedish defender was the part of the team that went on to win Svenska Supercupen in 2013 and Allsvenskan title in 2010,2013 and 2014.

He was also transferred to IFK Malmo as a loan from Malmo FF in 2009 and later joined Italian Serie A side, Torino FC on a free transfer in late April 2014 and was an official part of the team from July 1 onwards.

He scored his first goal for Malmo in the  Serie A league against Udinese. While he was with the Italian club, he was moved to English football team, Leeds United during August 2016 on a loan for a season.

Pontus made his club debut against Luton Town on 23 August 2016 and scored his first goal with a header on 5 November 2016 for Leeds United against Norwich City.

He won the award for Football League Championship player of the month in December 2016 on 6 January 2017 and his impressive performances earned him a permanent contract deal with Leeds United and he signed a three-year contract for a  reported fee to be around $4.84 million.

The center-back made his official debut against Preston North End on 12 August 2017.

Pontus Jansson’s International Career

After representing Sweden in U 17, U 19 and U 21 team and once captained the U 21 side in 2011, he made his debut for the senior Sweden team against Bahrain in a training match on 18 January 2012.

Pontus Jansson played alongside Seb Larsson and Albin Ekdal in the Sweden squad that was captained by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the UEFA Euro 2016 held in France.

Overall he has played for Sweden in 20 matches and has yet to score a goal for his birth country.
