In August 2016, Onazi was transferred to Trabzonspor with the transfer fee of €3.50million. So, far, he has scored 3 goals in 36 matches. Onazi has a contract which keeps him until June 2020.
Onazi made his international debut with the Nigeria U-17 team in 2009 with whom he has played 7 matches. He then played 5 matches for U-20 team in 2011.
On October 13, 2012, Onazi earned his first senior international cap under the coach Stephen Keshi in an African Cup of Nations as a substitute against Burkina Faso.
Onazi was then named for the Nigerian’s squad at the 2013 FIFA Confederation Cup but he didn’t play any matches as he suffered a slight knee knock a few weeks.

His father was rushed to the hospital to treat wounds after he was physically assaulted by Machete-wielding robbers who pretended they were there to deliver a letter back in 2016.
Onazi states that “terrifying ordeal of attackers with machetes at his house”. The robbers took an undisclosed amount of cash and many valuable materials in September 2016.
Later, the suspects are arrested named, Kinsley David, Joseph Ozo, Ali Audu and Ebuka Ugochukwu.
