Nathan Peterman is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the Bills in 2018 after drafting him in the 2017 NFL Draft. He has yet to make an outstanding play in his professional career.

 

Peterman played college football for the University of Tennessee and later transferred to the University of Pittsburgh where he played for the Pittsburgh football team.

Early Life of Nathan Peterman

Nathan Michael Peterman was born on May 4, 1994, in Jacksonville, Florida. He is the son of Dana and Chuck Peterman. He was a student of Bartram Trail High School where he played for the Bears football clubs. During his high school football career, he had passed for 2,392 yards and 36 touchdowns.

After graduating high school, Peterman joined the University of Tennessee where he continued to play football. He redshirted the first year at Tennesse and later became a backup quarterback to Justin Worley. In his first season at college football, he ended the season with a record stats of 10 of 23 passes completed for 45 yards and two interceptions.

In the 2014 season where Peterman was a sophomore, he played in seven games and was a starter for one game. He ended the season with a record of 10 of 20 passes completed for 49 yards.

In 2015, Peterman changed university and went to the University of Pittsburgh as a graduate transfer. He played for the Pittsburgh football team under head coach Pat Narduzzi quickly acquiring the starting position.

He finished the 2015 season with the record of 193-314 passes completed for 2,287 yards, 20 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He continued to as the starter for his senior year and ended the season with passes for 2,855 yards with 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Professional Life of Nathan Peterman

Nathan Peterman entered the 2017 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round with 171st overall pick. As a new member of the Bills, he had to fight for the spot of backup quarterback position along with T. J. Yates and Cardale Jones.

Peterman made his debut with the team in week 10 against the New Orleans Saints. He was entered with less than five minutes left in the game but was able to complete 7 of 10 passes for 79 yards and one touchdown as the Bills lost by a score of 47–10. In week 11, Peterman replaced Tyrod Taylor as the starting quarterback for the game against Los Angeles Chargers but was relived in the first half by Taylor after he threw five interceptions.

Nathan Peterman got the opportunity to start in the week 14 game against the Indianapolis Colts. He was able to show a better performance this time around completing 5 of 10 passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. He left the game in the third quarter with a concussion but the Bills were able to win the game in overtime.

Peterman became the starter for the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card Round game due to Taylor suffering from a concussion. He converted two first downs for the Buffalo offense but threw an interception to Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey which ended the game in the Bills losing to Jacksonville with the score of 10-3. The loss also ended the season for the Bills.

In the 2018 offseason, Tyrod Taylor was traded by the Bills to the Cleveland Browns which left the starting quarterback position vacant. Nathan Peterman, Josh Allen, and AJ McCarron competed for the starting position and Peterman won the competition becoming the Bills starting quarterback for the opening day.

Peterman was unable to perform up to the task of the starting position in the week 1 game against the Baltimore Ravens as he only threw for 24 yards, two interceptions and led the team to a first down only in the third quarter. He was later benched and replaced by Josh Allen. Allen was announced to be the starter for the week 2 match against Los Angeles Chargers putting Peterman in the bench.

The Bills signed a new quarterback Derek Anderson as the new backup to Josh Allen. On October 17, 2018, Sean McDermott, the head coach of the Bills announced Anderson as the starter for the week 7 match against the Indianapolis Colts.

Personal Life of Nathan Peterman

Nathan Peterman married his longtime girlfriend Morgan in May of 2016. He met his wife during his time at the University of Tennessee and had been in a relationship with her since 2012.

It has been more than two years into their marriage but the couple does not have any children. Children do not look to be his goals at the moment.
