Mike Glennon is an American football quarterback who currently plays for the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2013 NFL Draft with a four-year contract. He has not had a very highlighting career but has been able to find relative success nevertheless. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University where he also met his wife.

 

Glennon played College football at NC State and after graduation entered the NFL Draft. His rookie season has been one of his most outstanding performances. He has played for teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears and now the Arizona Cardinals.

Early Life of Mike Glennon

Michael Joseph Glennon was born on December 12, 1989, in Fairfax County, Virginia to parents John and Nancy Glennon. Glennon played high schol football for the Westfield High School football team, West feild Bulldogs.

During his senior year at high school, he completed 171 of 265 passes for 2,557 yards and 32 touchdowns. He helped his team to an undefeated record of 15-0 to 6 AAA State Championship. He became the Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year.

Glennon continued to play football during his college years as well. He joined the North Carolina State University and started to play for the NC State Wolfpack football team. He redshirted his freshman year and became the backup for the starting quarterback Russel Wilson for the year of 2009 and 2010. In 2011, he made it into the starting roster and ended the season with a recorded stats of 283 of 453 passes for 3,054 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.

In his final season at the university, he completed the season with 330 of 564 passes for 4,031 yards with 31 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Professional Life of Mike Glennon

Mike Glennon entered the 2013 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the third round as 73rd overall pick. He was the third quarterback taken in the draft behind E. J. Manuel and Geno Smith. Glennon signed a four-year contract worth $3,104,063 with a $637,500 signing bonus with the team on June 12, 2013.

Glennon started in week 4 of the 2013 season in place of Josh Freeman after the team's start of 0-3 in the season. He was able to throw his first career touchdown to wide receiver Mike Williams in the game but also threw a critical late interception to Arizona Cardinals Cornerback Patrick Peterson which resulted in the game to be lost with a score of 13-0.

Mike Glennon's rookie season ended with a record of 83.9 passes rating, completing 59.4 percent of his passes. He had 246 of 416 passes for 2,608 passing yards, 19 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.

In the 2014 season, a new head coach, Lovie Smith was appointed for the Buccaneers who announced Josh McCown as the starting quarterback for the 2014 season. In Week three, McCown suffered a thumb injury and Glennon entered the game in the second half in his place. Glennon became the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers for the next five games during McCown's leave due to injury.

The Bucs ended the season with a record of 2-14 and 1-4 with Glennon as the quarterback. Glennon had a record of 83.3 passer rating, completing 117 of 203 passes for 1,417 passing yards and 10 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.

In the 2015 season, Mike Glennon did not see any playtime at the field. He remained as a backup for Jameis Winston, who was a number one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. A similar story followed for the 2016 season where Glennon was only able to appear in two games of the season.

Glennon left Buccaneers in 2017 and signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Chicago Bears on March 9, 2017. He was named the starting quarterback of the Bears on September 4, 2017.

Mike Glennon started for the Bears in games up to week four. However, the 2017 first-round pick rookie Mitchell Trubisky was announced as the new starting quarterback for week 5. Glennon was put back in the bench as the backup to rooky Trubisky and did not see any playing time after the change. He was released by the Bears on March 14, 2018.

The Arizona Cardinals offered Mike Glennon a two-year contract after his release. Glennon joined the Cardinals on March 16, 2018, signing the two-year contract.
