Matthew Thomas Holliday a.k.a. Matt Holliday is an American retired MLB left fielder and first baseman. During his playing stint, he played for the Colorado Rockies (2004–2008), Oakland Athletics (2009), St. Louis Cardinals (2009–2016), New York Yankees (2017), and Colorado Rockies (2018).

Currently, the former MLB is serving as outfielder and hitting coach at Oklahoma State University.

Matthew Thomas Holliday was born on January 15, 1980, is an American Baseball player. He was born and raised in Stillwater, Oklahoma. As a youth, he showed remarkable talent in football, baseball, and basketball, but later built his career in baseball.

Holliday's grandfather Donald also signed with New York Yankees. His father was an assistant coach, baseball was in Matt’s blood. He was the classic coach’s kid; big, fast, strong larger than his friends. He played quarterback for the football team, infield for the baseball team. He also played basketball for two years, but in his junior year, football was his best sport. He was considered one of the top three high-school quarterbacks in the country.

Holliday began his baseball career in the Arizona Rookie League as a third batsman. In 1998 The Colorado Rockies selected Holliday in the seventh round of the 1998 MLB draft from high school in Oklahoma.

In 2004, Holliday debuted in MLB. Matt became the 19th player ever to reach 195 hits, 45 doubles, 30 home runs, 115 runs and 110 runs batted in a single season. He won the NL batting title, NLCS MVP, and September National League Player of the Month honors in the next season.

Starting in 2011 in the first of four consecutive NLCS appearances, Holliday batted .435 with a .652 slugging percentage. In 2014, he became the fifth player in MLB history to accumulate 9 consecutive seasons of at least 20 home runs, 75 RBI, 30 doubles and 80 runs scored each season. Further, he played for the Yankees as left fielder alongside Didi Gregorius and Austin Romine.

In October 2019, he took retirement from the MLB as a player.
