Education

Emmert said his parents instilled in him the value of education at a very deep level. For high school, he attended Fide High School and graduated in 1971. Subsequently, he enrolled at Green River Community College in Auburn, Washington prior to being transferred to the University of Washington in spring 1973.

After two years, he earned his Bachelor of Arts. In 1976, he pursued his Master's degree in Public Administration and a Ph.D. in 1983 from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University.

Before Becoming NCAA President

Prominently, Mark Emmert held the position of the University of Washington, his alma mater, taking office in June 2004, also becoming the first alumnus in 48 years to lead the University. On 1st October 2010, he left Washington for the NCAA Presidency on 27th April 2010. He was elected President Emeritus by the University of Washington Board of Regents in honor of his service to the UW.

Earlier in his career, he was chancellor at Louisiana State University and held faculty and administration positions at the University of Colorado, University of Connecticut, and Montana State University.
