Marcus Morris along with his twin brother Markieff Morris entered the 2011 NBA draft. His brother Markieff was picked by the Phoenix Sun with their 13th pick whereas Marcus was selected by the Houston Rockets with their 14th overall pick.

He was assigned to the D-League Rio Grande Valley Vipers but later returned to the Rockets. In the 2012-13 season, he became the opening starter due to injury on Patrick Patterson. After Patterson's return, he became the backup power forward for the team.

Morris was traded to the Phoenix Suns on February 21, 2013. He rejoined his brother in the team and became the second twins to play for the same NBA team. He signed a multi-year contract extension with the Suns on September 29, 2014. Despite a stable performance during the season, Morris was traded to the Detroit Pistons along with Reggie Bullock and Danny Granger in exchange for a 2020 second-round draft pick.
