A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Marcus Mariota was born as Marcus Ardel Tafuna Taulauniu Mariota on 30 0ctober, 1993, to Alana Deppe-Mariota and Toa Mariota. His birth sign is Scorpio. Mariota grew up adoring the quarterback play of fellow Samoan Jeremiah Masoli, who was also a standout quarterback at the Saint Louis School and the University of Oregon. 

He enrolled at Saint Louis School, where he was a dual-sports star in track and football. In football, he was relatively unknown until late in his high school career due to not starting until his senior season. In his senior years, he earned several awards and honors including HHSAA Division 1 State Football Championship, Interscholastic League of Honolulu Offensive Player of the Year, PrepStar Magazine All-West Region and Hawaii Gatorade Player of the Year. 

Upon graduation, he enrolled at the University of Oregon. After redshirting the 2011 season, he was made college career debut in 2012 as the first freshman to start a season opener for the Ducks in 22 seasons.

In the first half of his NFL debut, Mariota became the very first quarterback in NFL history to throw 4 touchdown passes. Also, he is the youngest quarterback to reach the perfect passer rating, surpassing Robert Griffin III

On 18th April 2018, the Titans picked up the fifth-year option on Mariota's contract. In a 34-17 Week 12 defeat to the Texans, he completed his first 19 passes and throwing for 303 yards as well as 2 touchdowns. He finished the game recording 22-23 passes for a completion percentage of 95.7.
