Carr attended St. Michael's College in Toronto where he played basketball for the high school team and led his team to the quarterfinals of the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) tournament. He won the OFSAA title with the team in his sophomore. He then transferred to Montverde Academy where he played with the top recruit in the 2018 class, RJ Barrett.
Carr then committed to the University of Pittsburgh but transferred to the University of Minnesota after his freshman year. Carr was named to the Third Team All-Big Ten by the media and was Honorable Mention All-Conference according to the coaches.
Besides, he also played for the Canada U16 team and led the team to the silver me/dal at the 2015 FIBA Americas Under-16 Championship.
