Johnson again returned to NBA as a coach for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1993–94 NBA season, replacing Randy Pfund, and Bill Bertka, who served as an interim coach for two games. He won his first game as head coach, a 110–101 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.
