FIFA World Cup winner Brazilian manager and former professional footballer, Luiz Felipe Scolari is professionally known as Felipao in Brazil and as Big Phil or Phil Scolari in the English speaking word.  He is a married man. 

Early Life

A native of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Luiz Felipe Scolari was born on 9th November 1948. Talking about his nationality, he is a Brazilian and belongs to white ethnicity. His father, Benjamin is also a Brazilian professional footballer.

Following the footsteps of his father, he entered in the world of football. He began his professional football career with Aimore, a Brazilian football club based in Sao Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul state.

Playing Career

In 1973, Scolari signed a six-year contract with Caxias, making total 67 appearances. He then moved to Juvantude, Novo Hamburgo, and CSA. However, it was his last club, CSA that he won his only major title the “Alagoano state championship."

Managerial career

Early Career

Following his retirement as a player in 1982, Scolari was appointed a manager of CSA, winning the “Alagoano state championship” in his first ever season. He then joined Juventude, Al-Shabab, Pelotas, Germio, Goias, Al Qadisiya, and finally landed in Kuwait in 1990, and signed a two-year contract.

For the club in 1989, he won the prestigious “Kuwait Emir Cup." Further, as a manager of the Kuwait national team, he coached the team to win 10th Gulf Cup in Kuwait.

Coritiba

Scolari returned to Brazil from Katar to coach and joined Coritiba. He worked there for three matches, losing all. After regular three losses, he left the team without collecting his wages.

Criciuma and return to Kuwait

In 1991, he coached Criciuma to their 1st major national little "Copa do Brasil." Later he joined the club in the Middle East, Al-Ahli and the 2nd spell at Al Qadisiya.

Gremio

Scolari returned to Gremio after six years, the Brazilian media disparaged him for playing a non-Brazilian pragmatic style of football. From 1993 to 1996, he won six titles including the “Copa Libertadores,” which qualified his team for the Intercontinental Cup, which they lost to Ajax on penalties.

Jubilo Iwata

Scolari became the manager of j. League alongside Jubilo Iwata; however, he left the team after 11 games and briefly afterward took charge of Palmeiras back in back in Brazil.

Palmeiras

In 1998, Scolari signed Palmeiras as a manager. There he led the team to the "Mercosur Cap,” “the Copa do Brasil;" as well as the had first Copa Libertadores on penalties against "Deportivo Call of Colombia."

In 1999, Intercontinental Cup, the club became the runner-up to Manchester United. For the year 1999, he was named “South American Coach of the Year."

Cruzeiro

Scolari became the manager of Cruzeiro, coaching them for a year in 2000.

Brazil

Scolari appointed as manager of Brazil in June 2001. During that time, the team has still to face five matches, and they were facing the danger of being disqualified for the “2002 FIFA World Cup." In spite of losing his first game to Uruguay, he led his team to qualification.

In the loudening to the finals, he refused to include Romario, a veteran striker in his team. Brazil entered the tournament unfancied but won over England, Belgium, Costa Rica, China PR, Turkey, and Turkey made to the final, where they beat Germany with 2-0 goals. With both goals by Ronaldo their team became the title holder of the “FIFA World Cup 2002."

Portugal

In 2003, Scolari became a manager of Portugal and oversaw their preparations for their appearance at the “UEFA Euro 2004." He managed Portugal in the “2006 World Cup” in Germany where the team reached the semi-finals, again coming out victorious in the quarter-finals in opposition to England. As well as, he lead Portugal to Euro 2008 where they reached the knock-out stages.

Chelsea

On 1st of 2008, he appointed as a manager for Chelsea. His 1st match for Chelsea was a friendly match against Chinese side Guangzhou Pharmaceutical, a 4-0 win. After several games, he was sacked on 9 February 2009.

Bunyodkor

On 6th June 2009, Scolari signed a contract to Bunyodkor for $13 million a year; the amount made his the highest paid football manager in the world until that time.

Return to Palmeiras

On 13th of June 2010, Scolari became the new manager of Palmeiras, signing a two-and-a-half year contract. With the team, he won the "Copa do Brasil." Following, the bad results in “2012 Campeonato Brasileiro," he left the team in a mutual consent.

Return to Brazil

After more than two months without guiding any club, Scolari returned to the Brazil to be a manager of Brazil national team, on 28th of November 2012.

Return to Gremio

After two years with Brazil, Scolari became the manager of Gremio. However, after a poor start to the season, he resigned from the position.

Guangzhou

On 4th of June 2015, Scolari became a head coach of Chinese Super League champion "Guangzhou Evergrande" for a two-and-half years contract. Four months later, he led the club to win in the “2015 Chinese Super League” and “AFC Championship League.” defeating Cosmic Olaroiu’s Al-Ahl.

On 24th October 2016, Scolari extended his contract for one year following his potential influencer Marcello Lippi was appointed as the FC coach of “China national team." Furthermore, he led the team to win three consecutive league title from 2015-17. However, he denied extending contract again by the end of 2017 season.

Personal Life

Luiz Felipe Scolari is currently sixty-eight. Talking about his relationship status, he is a happily married man. He tied the knot with his long-time girlfriend, Olga Scolari, whom he loves very much. The married couple together has two children: Fabricio Scolari and Leonard Scolari, both are grown up now. Until the date, there is no news and rumors regarding their separation or divorce.
