Lori Susan Jones or better known as Lolo Jones is an American hurdler and bobsledder. The winner of three NCAA titles and garnered 11 All-American honors while at Louisana State University, Lolo is a specialist in the 60 meters and 100-meter hurdles.

 

Lolo is the winner of 2007, 2008 and 2009 indoor national titles in the 60-meter hurdles. She also won the 2008 and 2010 World Indoor Championship. She also competes on the U.S. national bobsled team. In the 2013 World Championships, she won a gold medal in the mixed team event.

She attended the Theodore Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. She excelled in her class and had good grades. She was named Gatorade Midwest Athlete of the Year and set the Iowa State track meet record with a mark of 13.40 seconds for the 100-meter hurdles.

Jones attended the Louisiana State University following the lead of elite hurdler Kim Carson. She competed in the LSU's track just like Carson. She was the runner-up in both 100-meter hurdles and 4x100-meter relay at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2002.

The following year, Jones won the 60-meter Hurdles at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships. In her time at LSU, she was 11-time All-American and 6-time SEC Champion and was ranked among the top-three women for all-time in both the 60-meter hurdles and 100-meter hurdles.

Lolo Jones' Professional Life

Lolo Jones tried for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Outdoor Trials where she was not able to perform well. Jones had a stellar performance in 2006. She won at Heusden-Zolder in July and had a sixth-place finish in the 100m race at the 2006 World Athletics Final. She won the 2006 season being ranked fourth in the U.S. and seventh in the world.

Jones won the 60 m hurdles at the USA Indoor Championships in 2007 which was her first National Championship win. She entered the European Winter circuit where she won two meets and finished second in two in the 60 m hurdles. She finished third in the 2007 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships 100 m hurdles and got selected for the U.S. Team at the World Championships. She made a 6th place finish in the competition.

For the 2008 season, Lolo Jones made second-place finishes in Glasgow, Gothenburg, and Stuttgart 60 m hurdles. She ran her personal best time of 7.77 seconds in Karlsruhe to finish second to Susanna Kallur who broke the World record with a time of 7.68 seconds. In the 2008 World Indoor Championships, she won the 60 m hurdles which were her first World Championship. The high expectation was on Jones to win the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but she clipped the 9th hurdle and stumbled which ultimately led her to finish in the 7th place.

Lolo Jones started the 2009 indoor season in Europe winning 60 m hurdles in Karlsruhe and Birmingham. She came back to states to win the national indoor title in the 60 m hurdles. During the outdoor national championship, she collided with Michelle Perry which resulted in her getting injured and missing out on the opportunity to go to the 2009 World Championships.

Jones was able to defend her Indoor World Title in 2010 with a new American record of 7.72 seconds. Next year, Jones made her debut at the Aviva International Match where she finished fourth. She followed that with a third-place finish in Stuggart coming behind Carolin Nytra and Christina Vukicevic.

In the 2012 U.S. Olympics trials, Jones placed third in the 100 m hurdles earning herself a spot in the 2012 Summer Olympics team. In the London Olympics held that year, she placed third in the semifinals of the 100 m hurdles. She finished fourth in the finals of the competition.

Jones qualified for the NACAC Championship in Costa Rica in 2015. She won the NACAC Championship Women 100 m hurdles with the timing of 12.63 seconds.

Aside from hurdles, Lolo Jones is also a part of the U.S. national bobsled team. She was named in the U.S. national bobsled team along with Tianna Madison and Hyleas Fountain. On her first career World Cup Bobsledding competition of 2012, Jones and Jazmine Fenlator, placed second. Jones won gold in the team event with the U.S. at the FIBT World Championships and was selected for the U.S. bobsled team for the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
