Justin Gaethje hoping for a Bout against Conor McGregor: "I think he’ll fight me now.” MMA

Conor McGregor recently registered an impressive 40-second win against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. While the Notorious has not revealed when he will fight next, several UFC fighters are hoping for a money fight against him.

Conor has called out several welterweights like Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal most recently but Justin Gaethje believes the Notorious will now fight him in the next bout.

Gaethje, who is one of the top contenders for the lightweight title, might not soon get the title shot after Conor's return. Talking on Punchlines Podcast, Justin hopes that the Irishman will fight him in the next bout.

“Ultimately that dude makes his own decisions, and I think he has more confidence now. He needed a win. So yeah, I think he’ll fight me now.”

The former lightweight champion also expressed his desire earlier to fight Justin and even named him the next opponent after the UFC 246. John Kavanagh, Conor's coach, also talked about the possibility of the matchup at 170 so there is a high chance of setting up the bout.

However, Gaethje's absence from the UFC 246 made people doubt about the matchup. His presence in the front row could have actually made some story after the UFC main event.

“To be a superstar you have to win and you have to have something special. For me, I hope that knocking people out is my something special because I can’t sell myself, per se, and become a different person on camera and a different person off-camera. Ultimately, I think it could hurt me in the long run, just not wanting to take that route. I could have been there [at UFC 246]. I could have been a front row. I could have made a scene, but I don’t know. And maybe I’ll miss an opportunity because I wasn’t there.”
